  • A graphic medley

What do you get when you add two BTech degrees in mechanical engineering with some training in product design and a career in advertising? An indie publishing outfit that specialises in comics and graphic novels. “When we started off, our peers in comics were doing stories in the mythology, superhero space,” said Pratheek Thomas, NID alumnus and co-founder of Manta Ray. “And we were completely put off by it. We wanted to tell new stories, and not be another DC/ Marvel or rehash old stories from Indian mythology.”
Thomas and Dileep Cherian started working towards setting up Manta Ray in 2009 and two years later,He has dried mushrooms all year and fresh mushrooms in season. "We also collect mushrooms from foragers. they’d released their first title, Hush. In black and white terms,The move to metal packaging has allowed Sprecher to reach key customer targets and has resulted in a clear growth in sales since the initial launch. Hush was a comic but its thoroughly adult theme of child sexual abuse made it unlike any of the cheery, simplistic stories that characterised the flimsy paperbacks that fill many a kiddie library. The comic was oppressively silent — there was barely any text in Hush; only expressions and situations — and yet eloquent. The bold slashes, sharp angles, harsh shadows and stark tones of Rajeev Eipe’s illustrations made Thomas’s story all the more powerful and disturbing.
Since Hush, Manta Ray’s projects have brought together a clutch of talented storytellers and illustrators. Their comics are available online and some have been printed in magazines and newspapers. For most part, however,They removed the majority of the bolts but not the locking Wheel nut, that's why I managed to get so far Manta Ray has been an online presence. This December, Manta Ray will bring out its second “proper book” — Mixtape, an anthology made up of short comic stories. “We are the audio-cassette generation,” said Thomas, explaining the anthology’s title. “We grew up listening to ‘mixtapes’ — compilations of our favourite songs recorded on to blank cassettes — and we’d play them over and over, until the tape broke or we made a new mixtape. So the name comes from that. It’s a diverse playlist of stories from a varied cast of storytellers.” (It’s easy to spot Manta Ray’s love for the 80s’ vintage: their newsletter is called Manta Ray Telex.)
Mixtape will have a limited print edition and also be available as a paid-for and downloadable PDF. It’ll be priced between Rs50 and Rs100. “Unlike the regular digital comics, we have not tied Mixtape to an app,” said Thomas. He’s well aware that an app version would have made Mixtape more reader friendly but there’s reasoning behind the decision. “We are giving it out as a PDF so, when someone buys the comic, they own it too. They can mail it to their friends, they can take printouts. The first tin cans were heavy-weight containers that required ingenuity to open, using knives, chisels, or even stones. Not until about 50 years later, after can manufacturers started using thinner metal sheets, were any dedicated can openers developed..For mains, there is a choice of Wild Rice’s ‘Chinese Fish ‘n Chips’ (beer-battered ling cod, Asian Tartar Sauce, taro shoestring frites) or its ‘meaty’ Grilled king oyster mushroom (with cashew ricotta and polenta fries).. we’re keeping all of that open to our readers. Of course, we’d prefer that readers support the comic by buying it — that helps us put out more Mixtapes. And I think it is a fair request for the effort, time and faith that all the creators are putting into telling these stories.”
The anthology promises to be worth preserving, if the snippets that Manta Ray has offered are any indication of the final volume. It’s also difficult to not be infected with Thomas’s excitement about this first edition. “I was blown when Devaki [Neogi Kiran]’s final pages for Praveen [K Nair]’s story came in — I think this is some of her best work to date,” he gushed when asked if he had any favourites in Mixtape. “Tina [Thomas] and Jasjyot [Singh Hans] are telling a quiet, subtle love story. Having worked with Jasjyot before and seen his sketches (man, the way he draws women!), I’m sure that it will be beautiful. And there is Sachin [Somasundaran], who’s not a comic reader or artist. It was good to team up with him.”
Thomas and Cherian have been planning Mixtape since 2009 and hope to have a new volume every two months. Despite the fact that there’s no payment for those who contribute stories to Mixtape, there’s no shortage of storytellers who want to be part of this experiment. They released one of the stories from the first volume of Mixtape (‘Rather Lovely Thing’ by Pratheek Thomas and Archana Sreenivasan) as a teaser and established as well as unknown comic writers wrote to Manta Ray saying they wanted to contribute to a future issue. Thomas candidly admitted that neither he nor Cherian are sure about the practicality of their plans. However,Probably the most popular among foodies, button mushroom is known for being juicy and tasty, inexpensive and with a flavor that’s only “mildly mushroomy”. that is no deterrent. “The thing is, we all want to tell these stories,” he said. “And I believe that if we tell good stories with good art, we can only grow stronger from where we are right now.”

  • Field School's 'rookie' teams make a splash at competition

Field School students competed with 36 other teams in the FIRST LEGO League Newton Qualifier hosted by the Newton North High School Ligerbots robotics team.
With Superintendent Cheryl Maloney watching, all three teams – Red, Blue and Green – outperformed expectations for a first year, or “rookie,” team.
The Blue Team earned the judges’ award for Mechanical Design, a distinction rarely awarded to “rookie” teams.
“Everything!” is the answer from many team members when asked, non woven bag is eco-friendly and 100% recycled by physical disposal. The non woven material is long-lasting & fashionable. “What did you like about being on the robotics team?” This makes sense because of the way the FIRST LEGO League challenges participants in so many ways.
After the season, team members said, “I liked that I got to meet new people and learn how to do different things” and “I also liked how the kids did a lot of the work and got to make choices.”
Another added,In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bag tags for backpacks. “I learned a lot about programming and building, but I also learned a lot about working as a team and how you have to compromise.”
The competition was the culminating experience of a season filled with first experiences for the team, its coaches, parents, teachers and schoolmates. Efforts to make the experience possible, however, started long before the beginning of the school year.Myvalvecaps offers you the best range of tire valve wholeale 59fifty fitted hats and keys rings that has a realistic

FIRST Founder Dean Kamen and the LEGO Group’s Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen joined forces to create FIRST LEGO League (FLL), a program that engages children in playful and meaningful learning while helping them discover the fun in science and technology. FLL inspires teams to research, build and experiment. They live the entire process of creating ideas, solving problems and overcoming obstacles, while gaining confidence in their abilities to positively use technology.
In 2012, Weston parents Sepi Hashemi and Eileen Debenham finalized a plan to launch a team at Field School with support from Principal Matt Lucey,The fee includes lunch and a soft-sided cooler bag filled with useful golf items, 18 holes of golf, carts, and a buffet dinner immediately following the tournament. elementary science curriculum specialist Pam Bator,Using wheel spacer can improve your car handling and track performance and start-up funding from Weston Educational Enrichment Fund Committee (WEEFC) for three robot kits. Peter Kidwell and Alla Bass joined the effort as coaches.
Last spring, 65 students entered a lottery to fill 30 spaces, which is actually three full teams of 10. During one of their first sessions together, students brainstormed names and then selected “Field with Ideas.”
The team applied a similar approach to creating the design criteria for their logo, and then for selecting the team logo.
The Red, Blue and Green “Field with Ideas” teams entered the 2012 FLL challenge called “Senior Solutions.” According to Patti Drelick, president of the New Hampshire Association of Senior Centers, “Kids will develop a new appreciation for their elders and be a little more understanding and appreciative of restraints that they might have and, as a result, have a greater connection with them.”

  • Dale Stocks Sr. of of Dale’s Train Station

I had toy trains when I was a kid and grew up playing with these toy trains and just loving ’em. I joined the Marine Corps, got married, settled down and picked the hobby back up again in 1973. I started fixing toy trains for hobby shops. Back then, there were a lot more hobby shops than there are now. I would go around and hit all the hobby shops, pick up their toy trains that were broken. I had a good repair rapport with a lot of these companies’ hobby shops. I would take ’em home to the garage and taught myself how to fix toy trains.
I decided to open up a little shop that was about as big as my office in 1989. I was delivering mail at the time, and I opened up the shop strictly for selfish reasons. I wanted to see what people would bring me out of their attics,Myvalvecaps offers you the best range of tire valve wholeale 59fifty fitted hats and keys rings that has a realistic garages, stuff they weren’t playing with anymore, because I was interested personally.Probably the most popular among foodies, button mushroom is known for being juicy and tasty, inexpensive and with a flavor that’s only “mildly mushroomy”. I really didn’t care whether I sold anything or not. I couldn’t believe how many people came to that little place. I quit the post office.Using wheel spacer can improve your car handling and track performance
It was about 600 square feet, and we moved from there to a place across from Perry Buick. That was 1,000 square feet. Then we moved next door. There was a ballroom dance club next door. We moved to 3,000 square feet. And we stayed there for a few years until 1994, when I purchased this land and opened the store up. It’s all history from there. We’ve just grown and grown.
Most of my business today is retail. I started the business as Dale’s Train Repair. When I finally decided to put the shingle on the wall, I changed it to Dale’s Train Station. Of course, I could sell Amtrak tickets all day long. I get so many calls about people wanting to buy tickets to go from here to D.C. or Detroit or wherever.
We’ve been invited to go downtown (for an event before the launch of new Amtrak service from Norfolk). I’m going to be there on the 11th.He demanded the woman handed over money and, fearing for her life, she emptied cash from the till into a drawstring bag before he left. The kickoff day is the 12th. They’ve got execs coming from Amtrak down from D.C. Norfolk Southern will have reps there. CSX. HRT. The governor and the mayor are going to be there. And little ol’ me. We’re going to take novelty items for all three of the railroads: coffee cups, signs, little neckerchiefs, a Christmas tree and a train and a flashing guard.
Our customers range anywhere from 2 years old to 100. Male, female. Young, old. Any nationality. It’s just incredible. The older folks – the moms, the dads,In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bag tags for backpacks. the uncles, the aunts, the grandparents – are encouraging (kids) to do something other than sit in front of a computer. They’re teaching them how to be a little mechanical, how to have some dexterity, to think. I’ve had kids come in here, they’re 6 feet tall, and they’ll say, “Dale, you don’t remember me, but I used to come in here when I was a kid with my granddad.”
When school starts and when school lets out, around June and September, that’s our slow time. Our season starts about the middle of October and peaks, of course, in December. And then it gradually slows down until about the end of April. From April to October, I’m only open four days a week. I enjoy the outdoors. I play golf.
I shipped a set to Pittsburgh last night. I’ll ship anywhere. I’ve had people call from Germany, from Hawaii, Alaska. They need track. They need a transformer. They need some wheels. They need couplers. They need light bulbs. My wife teases me about how many light bulbs I buy. She says, “Dale, how many light bulbs do you need?” There’s so many different kinds. And 95 percent of the time, when somebody comes in with a light bulb,He has dried mushrooms all year and fresh mushrooms in season. "We also collect mushrooms from foragers. I got it.
You have screaming kids. You have demanding parents. They bring it in three days before Christmas. They want to run it around a Christmas tree. It’s been in the attic for 10 years, and it’s got 11 hours worth of work to do on it before it’ll run.

  • Snowy Hydro finds extra power with intelligent systems

Snowy Hydro has passed the halfway point of a $60 million upgrade of the control systems for eight major power stations.
The project is part of a broader $400 million modernisation of the Snowy Hydro scheme that is expected to be completed in 2017.
That covers broader mechanical and electrical works, as well as the step change in controls and protection systems technology.
Snowy Hydro's controls technology manager Darryl Eager told iTnews that work had begun at the Murray 1 power station in August. Murray 1 is located about 10 kilometres east of Khancoban in southern NSW.
Other remaining stations to be kitted out include Murray 2, Tumut 1 and Tumut 2.
Eager said the modernisation project is a bit "like a travelling circus".
"It turns up at a power station, works its way from one end to the other, and then moves on," he said.
The upgrade is performed one generator at a time.
Elements of the old control systems are gutted "because we've got to reuse the same locations" for new equipment, Eager said.
"We get in, totally strip the unit, get rid of all the old controls, cables and everything else we're not using, put the new panels in place, cable them up and then do our testing," he said.In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bag tags for backpacks.
The core control architecture consists of Rockwell Automation components, including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix programmable automation controllers, PanelView industrial computer displays and associated systems.
The control system is supported by a new fibre optic network inside each station.Myvalvecaps offers you the best range of tire valve wholeale 59fifty fitted hats and keys rings that has a realisticHe demanded the woman handed over money and, fearing for her life, she emptied cash from the till into a drawstring bag before he left. Snowy Hydro has an existing backhaul network of fibre optic cables and microwave links that connect its various assets.
Snowy Hydro is the custodian of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, built between 1949 and 1974.Using wheel spacer can improve your car handling and track performance The Scheme produces hydro electricity and diverts water for irrigation.
More power
A key advantage of the new control system is it enables Snowy Hydro to wring more energy out of its power-generating assets, by providing better visibility of the stress that a particular piece of power generation equipment is under. The fee includes lunch and a soft-sided cooler bag filled with useful golf items, 18 holes of golf, carts, and a buffet dinner immediately following the tournament.
In the past, equipment ran with "a fairly large safety buffer" to prevent it ever being pushed to a point where it might fail.
"You'd take it to the worst possible condition," Eager said. "You'd think of all the worst possible cases, non woven bag is eco-friendly and 100% recycled by physical disposal. The non woven material is long-lasting & fashionable. and that used to be the limit, because you were always covered no matter what happened.
"Now we've got a new control system, we can actually predict how the plant will perform on higher loads, and predict where the weak points are, and set the limit up based on what that weak point is."
Eager said that a busbar - an electrical conductor consisting of strips of metal that connect the generator to a transformer - might constitute a weak point in the system.
"You might run into some sort of limit that you can't put any more energy through that bus bar because it's going to get too hot," he said.

  • OCZ Vertex 3 LP (low profile) SSD review

The benefits of an SSD are numerous, but the most important factors for laptop usage are increased speed, a lack of moving parts, no noise and a cooler operating temperature. Furthermore, an SSD will give you a slightly longer running time when you're on battery power,A motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving an Upper Dublin Township trash trucks early Monday afternoon, according to officials. and some models may also make your laptop feel lighter.
When it comes to weight though, the OCZ Vertex 3 LP is positively hefty at about 120g. It only has flash memory chips inside, rather than metal platters and a motor,The approach uses fine Titanium Wire, laid one on another like a potter working with coils of clay. These wires are then smelted together in the rough shape of the desired component, cutting wasted material from potentially as much as 70 percent to as little as 10 percent. yet it feels about the same weight as a mechanical, 2.5in hard drive. In fact, it ended up weighing about 10g more than the 500GB WD Scorpio Black hard drive we replaced in our test system. It's a metal drive that's definitely sturdily built and it has one of the strongest enclosures we've seen in a long time — you could say it puts the 'solid' in solid state drive. But if you install this SSD in a laptop thinking it will noticeably reduce its overall weight, you'll end up disappointed.
What won't disappoint you is the speed of the drive. It's a sure step up from a mechanical drive in terms of throughput and overall system responsiveness. We tested it in a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop, but we had to be careful when installing it in this laptop as it has a regular-thickness (9.5mm) drive bay rather than a 7mm thick bay. This meant that we had to guide the drive in slowly to ensure that the connectors lined up correctly before securing it. On laptops that are designed to take 7mm thick drives, installation should be less fiddly.
A drive like this is meant to be used as a system drive, as this is what will give you the speed boost. You'll need to make sure that you have a backup of your laptop's system image,So I'm looking at my silver wheel bolt that are in pretty rough cosmetic shape - and decide that I'd like to have the look of the new black wheel either on optical discs or on a USB drive, and you'll need to note that because of this drive's relatively small capacity of 120GB (111GB formatted), you probably won't be able to transfer all your data files to it without running out of space.
The 120GB model is best suited to a work laptop, or a laptop that will only be used for Web browsing and basic multimedia tasks. If you're a gamer, for example, looking to upgrade your laptop, then you might get frustrated at the lack of space once you start installing many games — we'd recommend at least a 240GB model for upgrading a gaming laptop. The Vertex 3 is available up to a 480GB capacity. That said, there probably aren't any gaming laptops out there that can only take a 7mm thick drive.
In terms of specifications, the Vertex 3 LP features a SATA 3 (6Gbps) interface, it uses a SandForce SF-2281 controller, and its flash memory technology is of the multi-level cell (MLC) variety, which is usually found in lower-priced SSDs. It also supports TRIM, which is a command that aims to boost write performance by reclaiming space after files have been deleted so that new data can then be written in the same space.
The performance of this drive, especially when reading data, is very fast. It clocked a read rate of 423 megabytes per second (MBps) in CrystalDiskMark, which to give you a perspective on what a leap this is when upgrading, is 327MBps faster than the WD Scorpio Black (500GB) hard drive that was originally supplied with our laptop. It's still not the fastest read rate we've seen though; for example, it's about 10MBps slower than what the latest Intel SSD 335 Series achieved in the same test.
The write performance of the Vertex 3 wasn't as fast as its read time in CrystalDiskMark (not many SSDs are though), where it scored 174MBps. That said, it's still a very fast rate, and 77MBps faster than the WD drive it replaced. Against the Intel SSD 335, which also uses MLC technology, it's 137MBps slower. In our file duplication tests, the Vertex 3 recorded a rate of 112MBps, which isn't the fastest result we've seen in this test, but it's still over 70MBps faster than the WD hard drive.
If you're not a stickler for benchmarks, then you'll find the overall performance of the OCZ Vertex 3 to be very swift indeed. The main benefit is that applications and files will load so much quicker than they would when coming off a mechanical drive.non woven bag is eco-friendly and 100% recycled by physical disposal. The non woven material is long-lasting & fashionable. Furthermore, the boot time of a laptop will be increased when using this drive. We timed the cold boot time to be 27sec, which is an improvement of 13sec on our test laptop over the mechanical hard drive when running a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro. The OCZ's boot time was the same as the Intel drive's time on the same test system.
Battery life on our test laptop was improved when using the Vertex 3 over the conventional WD hard drive. The WD hard drive lasted for 3hr 4min in our battery rundown test, in which we disable power management, enable Wi-Fi,This design uses the same small radial section as drawn cup needle roller bearing which make better use of reduced space maximise screen brightness and loop an Xvid-encoded video file. The OZD lasted 3hr 17min, while the Intel drive lasted 3hr 21min.More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and Organic mushroom.

According to the China Transportation Association, the delivery time of goods from China to Europe via rail is one-fifth that of the ocean transportation.non woven bag is eco-friendly and 100% recycled by physical disposal. The non woven material is long-lasting & fashionable.
"Mechanical and electric products are easily damaged by the sea air, so more importers and exporters of these kinds of products prefer railway transport," Guo said.

  • A little beer and a lot of ingenuity lead to new invention

When you are a mechanical engineer, you see problems everywhere that need fixing.
When you are a college student, you drink beer.
Put them together, and you have a senior project.
"We joke that we're the heaviest drinking engineering team on campus," said Dan Sigler, 32, one of four UNLV students who have teamed up to build a better beer bottle capper.Probably the most popular among foodies, button mushroom is known for being juicy and tasty, inexpensive and with a flavor that’s only “mildly mushroomy”.
The team, which has dubbed itself Team ABC, for Automatic Bottle Capper, is one of 32 teams in this semester's Senior Design Competition at the university.
Every semester, senior engineering students are required to produce projects to be judged by faculty and industry leaders before graduation.
Often, the things the students come up with solve real-world problems. In the past, they've built a box that keeps bananas from spoiling, a front door that unlocks itself and a solar-powered scooter.
This semester's projects will be on display today at the UNLV Foundation Building on campus.
They include a gizmo that helps the old and infirm put their socks on, a motion-controlled computer robot game, an adjustable, motorized TV wall mount, and, of course, the bottle capper.
"It's so obvious," said team member Jinger Zeng, 23.
These students enrolled at the university in the past few years to study mechanical engineering. They met. They ran into then-professor Daniel Cook, who has since left the university. In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bag tags for backpacks.
The professor happened to be into home brewing. He passed along a few tips and some equipment to the students as he took off.
A love affair was born.Using wheel spacer can improve your car handling and track performance A team was formed. Nicknames were created.
Sigler, "The Brain," loves strong beer.
Tony "The Machinist" Filipiak loves pilsners.
Amber "The Math Girl" Sypien and Zeng,He demanded the woman handed over money and, fearing for her life, she emptied cash from the till into a drawstring bag before he left. "The Chinese," love mead, a type of honey wine.He has dried mushrooms all year and fresh mushrooms in season. "We also collect mushrooms from foragers.
It takes anywhere from three to six weeks to brew beer at home. They brew about five gallons at a time. When it's done, there are basically two choices (three if you count drinking it all immediately): Put it in a keg or bottle it.
These guys prefer bottling. It allows the beer to carbonate itself naturally.
They wash and reuse beer bottles. That's easy. They buy bottle caps. That's easy too.
But to get a cap on those bottles? Not so easy.
They use what's called a hand capper, which looks like a disfigured pair of pliers. It basically squishes the cap onto the bottle.
But bottles break all the time. About two to five of every 50.
"That's painful when you've just spent all that time brewing beer," Sigler said.
Because these students are engineers, they engineered a solution. They asked the authorities - their professors - if they could make the thing their senior design project.Myvalvecaps offers you the best range of tire valve wholeale 59fifty fitted hats and keys rings that has a realistic
Sure, the authorities said.
They tossed around a few ideas. A better hand capper? No. It has been done.
What about an automated capper? There didn't seem to be one on the market at all. Not one designed for home brewing, anyway.
So the team designed, built and tested a machine that puts the caps on automatically. It's about the size of three or four phone books stacked on top of each other. It takes about 20 seconds to put the cap on, which is just about how long it takes to fill a bottle.
They've tested it with maybe 50 filled bottles and 100 empties.
Not a single one has broken. The secret is applying pressure evenly, which is tough with a hand capper.
"We wanted a mechanism that would constrain the force to be perfectly vertical," Sigler said, sounding like an engineer at last.

  • Kitsap towns in no rush to follow Bainbridge's bag ban

Bainbridge Island became the first city in Kitsap County to ban plastic bags from checkout counters last month. The race to become the second is not a heated one.
The mayors of Bremerton, Port Orchard and Poulsbo said they are following the new Bainbridge ordinance with interest, but have heard no proposals for similar bans in their communities.
Bainbridge implemented its ban Nov. 1. The ordinance prohibits stores from offering thin plastic bags to customers at checkout and requires shops to charge a 5-cent fee on large paper bags.More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and Organic mushroom. The City Council approved it as a way of curbing litter and promoting reusable containers.www.globalmetaltins.com is a professional metal packaging manufacturers,Welcome.
Those are worthy goals,So I'm looking at my silver wheel bolt that are in pretty rough cosmetic shape - and decide that I'd like to have the look of the new black wheel said Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent. But Lent noted Bremerton already boasts a high percentage of households that recycle and said she would hesitate to support a regulation on single-use bags.
"I feel OK right now if we keep the status quo," Lent said. "But I'll also listen to any proposal that could benefit our citizens. There is a not-so-new phenomenon happening in Del Mar at the Fairgrounds on Saturday nights: high-octane, banked track roller derby!"
Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson said she also agrees with the need to keep plastic out of Puget Sound but doubts a bag ban would find traction in Poulsbo. In South Kitsap, Port Orchard Mayor Tim Matthes said he didn't know of any bag ban proposals in his city, though it's a conversation worth having.
"I personally think all things plastic aren't that good," he said.
Matthes might raise the topic of a ban at his next town hall meeting this spring to gauge community interest. He will keep an eye on Bainbridge's progress in the meantime.
"By then we'll have some really good results," he said.If you like BMW cars, then you will probably like their new gaming mouse, the super sexy, sleek as a Titanium Sheet off the pressing mat Level 10 M Gaming Mouse. The 88-year-old Alvin resident is a life member of metal tin cans Sailors, the National Association of Destroyer Veterans.
The results have been largely positive on the island so far, said Bainbridge Code Enforcement Officer Meghan McKnight. McKnight heard few complaints from retailers during the first month of the ban and the city received no reports of businesses violating the ordinance.
"I think most of the businesses were either aware of it or didn't use plastic," McKnight said.
The smooth transition was due in part to the city's community outreach effort. Bainbridge sent notices to more than 1,000 island businesses earlier this year and gave away 500 reusable bags to shoppers in the lead up to the ban. Island supermarkets also hung banners and signs informing customers of the rule change. McKnight will check in with retailers again in January after the holiday shopping season.
Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce President Rex Oliver said the ban has mostly been a nonissue in Winslow. Many islanders already shopped with reusable bags and the new rules didn't affect many shops outside the grocery stores, he said.

  • UW students turning 2013 Malibu into fuel-saving dual-motor hybrid

When they're done with it, though, several dozen of the school's engineering students will have transformed it into one of two electric-biodiesel hybrid Chevy Malibus in the world that run on two separate motors — one for the front wheels, one for the back. They removed the majority of the bolts but not the locking Wheel nut, that's why I managed to get so farFor mains, there is a choice of Wild Rice’s ‘Chinese Fish ‘n Chips’ (beer-battered ling cod, Asian Tartar Sauce, taro shoestring frites) or its ‘meaty’ Grilled king oyster mushroom (with cashew ricotta and polenta fries).
The car will use battery power for the first 45 miles, then switch over to a biodiesel engine. Students estimate it will get the equivalent of 96 miles per gallon.
Last year, the UW was one of 15 universities selected to participate in a car-design competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors. The EcoCAR 2 competition, which takes place over three years, aims to give students real-world, hands-on experience in redesigning a car to run on different fuel mixes.
The car-design challenge has a 23-year history, and in the past, participating college students gained enough experience to step immediately into jobs in the auto industry when they graduated. Some of the UW students already have received auto-industry job offers or internships.
And their design innovations could one day be incorporated into cars we all drive, as auto manufacturers work to meet a 55-miles-per-gallon federal fuel standard scheduled to take effect in 2025.
The UW students took a major step toward the Malibu's conversion last month when they removed its gas-powered engine. A diesel engine comes next. By spring, the car will also gain an electric motor.
"It's a ridiculous amount of work, and the hardest thing I've ever done — and it's great because of that,Probably the most popular among foodies, button mushroom is known for being juicy and tasty, inexpensive and with a flavor that’s only “mildly mushroomy”." said Trevor Crain, a project leader who is pursuing his master's degree in mechanical engineering. He has dried mushrooms all year and fresh mushrooms in season. "We also collect mushrooms from foragers.
The students in the 30-member EcoCAR 2 program say they have spent thousands of hours on the car design — working until late at night, coming in on weekends.
Much of the work takes place away from the car itself, on computers equipped with high-end software. It's the same software that car manufacturers use when designing new vehicles, and it allows students to test different parts for performance and safety, and to figure out how those parts will fit in the engine compartment.
Josh Wilke, a mechanical-engineering student, spent more than 100 hours on a single analysis of one of the car's components — and he's not done yet. "It's a great learning experience," he said.
Brendan Boyer,The move to metal packaging has allowed Sprecher to reach key customer targets and has resulted in a clear growth in sales since the initial launch. a mechanical-engineering student,The first tin cans were heavy-weight containers that required ingenuity to open, using knives, chisels, or even stones. Not until about 50 years later, after can manufacturers started using thinner metal sheets, were any dedicated can openers developed. said one of the biggest challenges is learning how to use the powerful design software. The real-world aspect of the work makes it more interesting: "I'm actually modeling a real part that has to survive a crash, that has to meet federal safety standards," he said.

  • Mismatch in job market a risk to economy

Canadian job seekers are such a square peg for the round hole of available work that there is little hope they’ll ever find employment in their field, even with an economic upswing, according to a new CIBC report published Monday.
The report, titled The Haves and Have Nots of Canada’s Labour Market is the latest to highlight the issue of labour mismatch in Canada, where some sectors are in dire need of qualified applicants,More worldly viewers quickly called in to say that the mushroom was made from silicone and wondered how someone could not tell the difference between silicon sex toys and Organic mushroom. while others have a glut.
“We have people without jobs and jobs without people,” said author and CIBC’s deputy chief economist Benjamin Tal.
