What do you get when you add two BTech degrees in mechanical engineering with some training in product design and a career in advertising? It’s also difficult to not be infected with Thomas’s excitement about this first edition. “I was blown when Devaki [Neogi Kiran]’s final pages for Praveen [K Nair]’s story came in — I think this is some of her best work to date,” he gushed when asked if he had any favourites in Mixtape. “Tina [Thomas] and Jasjyot [Singh Hans] are telling a quiet, subtle love story. Having worked with Jasjyot before and seen his sketches (man, the way he draws women!), I’m sure that it will be beautiful. And there is Sachin [Somasundaran], who’s not a comic reader or artist. It was good to team up with him.”
Thomas and Cherian have been planning Mixtape since 2009 and hope to have a new volume every two months. Despite the fact that there’s no payment for those who contribute stories to Mixtape, there’s no shortage of storytellers who want to be part of this experiment. Snowy Hydro's controls technology manager Darryl Eager told iTnews that work had begun at the Murray 1 power station in August. Murray 1 is located about 10 kilometres east of Khancoban in southern NSW.

Eager said the modernisation project is a bit "like a travelling circus".
"It turns up at a power station, works its way from one end to the other, and then moves on," he said.

In our file duplication tests, the Vertex 3 recorded a rate of 112MBps, which isn't the fastest result we've seen in this test, but it's still over 70MBps faster than the WD hard drive.

They tossed around a few ideas. A better hand capper? No. It has been done.
What about an automated capper? There didn't seem to be one on the market at all. Not one designed for home brewing, anyway.
So the team designed, built and tested a machine that puts the caps on automatically. It's about the size of three or four phone books stacked on top of each other. It takes about 20 seconds to put the cap on, which is just about how long it takes to fill a bottle.
They've tested it with maybe 50 filled bottles and 100 empties.
Not a single one has broken. The secret is applying pressure evenly, which is tough with a hand capper.
"We wanted a mechanism that would constrain the force to be perfectly vertical," Sigler said, sounding like an engineer at last.

But Lent noted Bremerton already boasts a high percentage of households that recycle and said she would hesitate to support a regulation on single-use bags.

Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson said she also agrees with the need to keep plastic out of Puget Sound but doubts a bag ban would find traction in Poulsbo. In South Kitsap, Port Orchard Mayor Tim Matthes said he didn't know of any bag ban proposals in his city, though it's a conversation worth having.
"I personally think all things plastic aren't that good," he said.
Matthes might raise the topic of a ban at his next town hall meeting this spring to gauge community interest. He will keep an eye on Bainbridge's progress in the meantime.

The results have been largely positive on the island so far, said Bainbridge Code Enforcement Officer Meghan McKnight. McKnight heard few complaints from retailers during the first month of the ban and the city received no reports of businesses violating the ordinance.

Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce President Rex Oliver said the ban has mostly been a nonissue in Winslow. Many islanders already shopped with reusable bags and the new rules didn't affect many shops outside the grocery stores, he said.
