Genesee County Undersheriff Chris Swanson said the county and the city of Flint must agree upon the language of the contract to continue operations of the Flint City Lock-up through the 2014 fiscal year that begins on Oct. 1. Genesee County Commissioner Omar Sims said the agreement to renew the contract between the county for the operations of the Flint City Lock-up by the Genesee County Sheriff's Department for one year was approved Wednesday, Sept. 4, by the Governmental Operations Committee. Sims said the 72-hour holding facility is used by the Michigan State Police as well, making it another tool to fight crime in Genesee County.
